The year is 3004. In a society where everything is broken, no one is safe. This is especially true for seventeen year old Ebony who grew up safely in the outer reaches of The Desolation but was never sheltered from the truth. When she finds a gun, possibly one of the ten still existing in the world, trouble starts to spill out of every corner. On the streets of The Desolation, she meets a handsome teenager who is on the run for killing his dad. He wants to team up and runaway with her, but Ebony isn't looking for an accomplice, especially one with anger issues. All she wants is to escape her broken life. However, The Nation (a group of former Presidents who rule supreme) want nothing more then to see her dead, because Ebony soon discovers a ground breaking secret. A secret that should never have been one to begin with.

Earth has been desecrated with a massive biotechnology disaster causing a worldwide blackout, meaning no technology or electrical objects will survive. All lights out except for the sun, but that light source won't last for long. This causes people to lack food, land, and water. People are now turning to the dark side of life, the side of where they would do anything to survive.
"They have all gone rabid!" Elsie shouted. Her hair was knotted and tangled every which way and she slumped over with her shoulders over her feet. She looked up with cloudy gray eyes and dry cracked lips. Her tongue slid smoothly across them and she lunged at Elsie and Jessie.
