The Lowdown on "My Sister's Keeper"

S- I just finished the heartwarming (and heartbreaking) book that is "My Sister's Keeper", written by Jodie Picoult. This story dives into the detais of cancer life, as well as goes into the inner workings of some of the world's most common relasitionship issues, from kids too unexplained actions. The main character in this novel is Anna Fitzgerald. Unlike most children, Anna was born out of petri dish. Put on this Earth to save her dying, cancer-stricken sister Kate. Anna is (and was meant to be) a %100 genetic match for Kate, that means that Anna can successfully donate any body part to Kate in order to help keep her alive. She has always been known to her parents as Kate's donor sister. Since the day she was born, Anna has been giving up lymphocytes, stem cells, granulocytes, even bone marrow, and sometimes not by choice. All to keep Kate's heart beating. When Anna is thirteen and the idea of a kidney transplant is put on the table, she sues her parents for the right to her own body. The big catch: if Anna doesn't donate one of her kidneys, Kate will die. "My Sister's Keeper" is all about Anna learing to be who she is, without Kate, and doing what is best for those around her, even if it is not in her best inerests. This is not a story for thrill-seekers. "My Sister's Keeper" is written in a simple and realistic tone. There are no car-chases or shootings. It is a novel for those who enjoy thought-provoking pieces of literature. Rating: 5/5 book points
