R- Hello Everyone! So sorry, we have been wrapped up in so much lately, we are so sorry to not have posted anything! I mean in the time that we were gone I read four books! Well 4 1/2 actually. 3 1/2 of those books were The Giver, Gathering Blue, Messenger, and half of Son this are all written by the talented Lois Lowry. First of all if you are going to read the Giver series read Son and the Giver the two in the middle are boring and barely related to the series. Okay, I am combining 3 1/2 books into one post. Here I go. To start us off lets begin with the Giver. I hope you have all heard of the Giver movie that is coming out this summer... well I read the book a few years ago and I saw the new movie trailer. I wanted to reread it so I could remember the book when I went to see the movie. Let me just say it is an amazing book! I mean it was great the first time, but I forgot what exactly happened so it was a new exciting experience to read it again. Moving onto Gathering Blue. This is a well written book like the Giver, but it has no relation to it whatsoever, and is so boring. I had to force myself through it. You do not get attached to the characters, like you do in the first book. Anyway we were learning about climax in school while I was reading this, and I honestly think this book doesn’t really have one! The only thing I could maybe consider to be a climax was at the very end of the book! Defiantly not one of my liked books. Then there is Messenger. Messenger continues the story from Gathering Blue, and is still well written, but again really boring. I did however like Messenger a little better than Gathering Blue. And if you look back at what happened in Messenger, It was a whole book about maybe what I could describe in a few sentences. Although Gathering Blue was completely unrelated to the Giver, Messenger ties them together, sort of. Last but not least there is Son! I am half way through Son and I love it. This book seems unrelated to Gathering Blue and Messenger, but is completely related to the Giver. I have fallen in love with the characters in this book just as much as I did with the first one. This is a great book. So I will say it again,if you are going to read the Giver series read Son and the Giver the two in the middle are boring and barely related to the series and I don’t think you miss anything important. Now ratings: The Giver: Cookie Book! Gathering Blue: Book to Burn Messenger: Book to burn and Son: Cookie book!
